An updated edition of the main German dictionary Duden has been published in Germany. It contains three thousand new words. Among them, of course, “kovid” – the main sign of the time.

According to Deutsche Welle, the German vocabulary has officially expanded with such concepts as” lockdown “(closing borders),” Ghost matches “(competitions without spectators) and” herd immunity”, which do not leave the pages of Newspapers. Another newfangled word – “shame for air travel” came into use with the help of eco-activist Greta Thunberg. However, this season, due to widespread flight cancellations, it is no longer so relevant.

In Germany, the rules for dog breeders will be tightened

The dictionary has found a place for the charming neologism “bee-loving”. It owes its appearance to the fight against the threat of extinction of honeybees. And in German, a new punctuation mark has been approved – the “gender asterisk”, which adds feminine suffixes to addresses on the letter. This looks rather cumbersome, but otherwise the correspondence is considered impolite. Some archaisms have been removed from the dictionary, for example, the names of the professions “trapper” and “journeyman Baker”. Although outdated, they served as an ornament to the language of Schiller and Goethe.
